In a vintage shaped by restraint and skill, Château Mouton Rothschild 2021 is a striking expression of what First Growth Bordeaux can be when finesse takes the lead. While 2021 offered challenges—cooler conditions, lower yields—it also allowed top estates like Mouton to craft wines of purity, elegance, and classical structure.

The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, as always, but here it shows a more architectural frame: aromas of blackcurrant, crushed violets, pencil shavings, and cedar unfold slowly, leading into a precise, mineral-driven palate. The tannins are firm yet ultra-fine, the oak perfectly integrated, and the acidity gives the wine lift and energy without sharpness. This is Mouton in a more contemplative mood—less flamboyant, more focused.

Built to age, yet already hinting at its inner detail, Mouton 2021 is a wine for collectors who value proportion and nuance over opulence. Pair with decades of patience—or, with proper decanting, a rare and refined glimpse into Left Bank classicism.

Beams of tannin add to an impression of explosive lift. Touches of mocha, spice, new leather, cedar and blood orange begin to emerge with a bit of time in the glass. "Gorgeous deep pink purple rim to the glass. The nose is bright and intense, heady with perfumed aromatics and edges of graphite, cocoa and sweet red cherries. Such clarity on the palate, excellent tension from the get go with beautifully expressed cherry and strawberry fruit that has a soft, ripe fleshy core. The tannins are fine but plentiful, coating the mouth providing the structure and frame. This has such a sense of quiet confidence - it's not shouting so much but gently showing off its many layers of fruit, acidity, minerality and freshness. This really grows on you, expanding and deepening as the flavours travel across the palate, coming in waves. Understated and introverted at the moment but still harmonious and classy.
