From the heart of Pauillac, this wine offers the perfect balance of power and finesse. With aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis, and plums, it also reveals the signature notes of tobacco, cedar, and a subtle earthy depth that mark its Bordeaux roots.

On the palate, the wine is structured yet velvety, with firm tannins supporting the rich fruit flavors. Leather and spice add complexity, while the wine's bright acidity ensures a fresh lift. The finish is long and graceful, leaving behind lingering notes of dark fruit and a touch of smoke.

An ideal pairing for grilled lamb, roasted meats, or a rich beef stew, this wine is drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve, revealing more layers of complexity as it ages. It’s a refined expression of Pauillac that speaks to the terroir and craftsmanship behind it.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"Good red-ruby color. Sexy, highly aromatic nose combines black raspberry, licorice, mint, minerals and flowers. Classy, bright Pauillac, with suave dark berry and mineral flavors nicely shaped by firm acidity. Offers early sex appeal but has the structure for a long life in bottle. Finishes with ripe, spreading tannins and excellent grip and length." -Vinous

"One of the great estates of the Medoc, Pontet-Canet has enjoyed increasing attention as well as a draconian selection process by owner Albert Tesseron ever since his breakthrough vintage of 1994. The 2001 does not possess the power of the 2000 or the huge 2003, but it is still a very fine albeit tannic, lighter wine. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it was produced from modest yields of 37 hectoliters per hectare. Revealing classic cassis aromas, medium to full body, a firm structure with plenty of finesse, a closed personality, and dominant as well as intrusive tannin, it should age well for 12-20 years, but patience will be required. Certainly the concentration appears up to the level of the tannin." -Robert Parker

"Big and bloody and pretty sumptuous and attractive. Delivers all the way through the tasting experience. Luscious yet with lots of fine tannins underneath. PLL? Wonderfully harmonious. There is freshness here too. Very long."

Wine Spectator

WS 90
"Enticing blackberry and licorice character, with a tiny bit of tobacco. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a serious finish."
