Clos de la Roilette is a Flatiron-favorite Fleurie, and the Cuvee Tardive (here labeled Vendange Tardive) is its top, age-worthy bottling. Fernand Coudert rescued the estate in 1967 and his son Alain has run the cellar since the 1980s. The clos sits on a rare clay-rich seam that produces a fuller, more structured wine than granite-based Fleurie, closer to Moulin-a-Vent. The Tardive comes from roughly 80-year-old vines and is built to be enjoyed later. The 2015 was a warm, ripe, concentrated vintage, giving a richer bottle that is drinking well now with room to keep.

Antonio Galloni

"Bright magenta. Sexy, highly perfumed scents of red fruit liqueur, candied flowers and five-spice powder, along with a smoky mineral topnote. Sappy, deeply concentrated raspberry and rose pastille flavors show impressive energy and are complicated by a suggestion of Asian spices that gains power in the glass. At once powerful and lithe, finishing very long, with impressive focus and silky, harmonious tannins." —Josh Raynolds

More about Clos de la Roilette (Coudert)

Alain Coudert inherited a poorly maintained Fleurie vineyard in 1967 and spent five decades proving it could rival Moulin-à-Vent. His vines border Moulin-à-Vent and taste like it—richer, more structured, with clay and mineral manganese rather than pure granite. The Cuvée Tardive is built for aging, but even the regular Fleurie ages beautifully. A generational project completed and handed down.

Tasting Profile

A rich, concentrated cru Beaujolais from a warm year, closer to Moulin-a-Vent. Generous dark fruit with structure, now maturing into savory depth.
