Alejandro Fernandez made Ribera del Duero famous with Pesquera, then bought a hilltop above the Duero at Roa and did it all over again. Condado de Haza was that second act: estate-grown Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), aged in oak, made with the same conviction that put the region on the map. This is a 1994 with three decades in the bottle, so adjust your expectations accordingly. Old Ribera stops being about fruit and starts being about texture and savor. Stand the bottle up a day ahead, decant gently off the sediment, and take it as it comes. Bottles with this much age are always a bit of an adventure, which is exactly the point.
