Forty-five-year-old estate Barolo from one of Italy's oldest noble families. The Cordero di Montezemolo lineage stretches back to 1340, and the family's La Morra estate — anchored by the iconic Cedar of Lebanon tree planted on the Monfalletto hill in 1856 — is their historical heart. Monfalletto is the estate cuvée drawn from that home vineyard, La Morra Nebbiolo of perfume and finesse rather than brawn. 1980 was a solid, balanced vintage in Piedmont, and at forty-five years on, this is a fully mature, fragile museum piece — the kind of bottle to handle with reverence: stand it upright a day in advance, open gently, and pour straight, expecting a faded, secondary-driven Barolo more about memory than fruit. A glimpse into pre-modern Barolo, drunk now or never.
