Denis Bachelet's domaine runs to about four hectares, worked essentially single-handed since 1983, and demand for his Gevrey bottlings long ago outstripped supply - this Cote de Nuits-Villages is the sane way into his cellar. The fruit comes mostly from Queue de Hareng, or "herring's tail," with the rest from Creole and La Mouille, all in Brochon at the northern end of the Cote de Nuits. It gets the house treatment: fully destemmed fruit, gentle handling, restrained old wood, finesse rather than force. 2023 brought a large, ripe, healthy crop, and in careful hands it gave reds with real concentration and dark-fruited generosity alongside fresh acids. Approachable now, and it should fill out over the next five to eight years.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Côte de Nuits Villages will be the final vintage under this name; it will become Fixin Village from the 2024 vintage. This has a clean and precise bouquet: dark cherries once again, touches of violet and iris flower joining the chorus line with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy blackcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, a healthy sprinkling of black pepper and light graphite notes toward the finish. Very fine." —Neal Martin

"The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages is especially good (as of next year, it will become Fixin, but the vineyard won't change). Exhibiting aromas of blackberries, mulberries, licorice and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with excellent concentration and a long finish." —William Kelley
