Half Cabernet Sauvignon, half Syrah, grown on north-facing limestone in Provence: a blend the local appellation refused to allow, which is exactly why this wine exists. Eloi Durrbach planted the estate in 1973 on slopes chosen for coolness decades before anyone worried about a warming climate, farmed organically from the start, and gave up his appellation rather than change the recipe, settling eventually under the IGP Alpilles. His children Ostiane, Isoline and Antoine have run the domaine since his death in 2021, unchanged: whole-cluster fermentation with native yeasts, then more than two years in foudre with almost no racking. 2023 was drier even than the drought year before it, under three hundred millimeters of rain, and the harvest ran from Syrah on September 4 to Cabernet on the 19th, finishing at a restrained thirteen percent alcohol. It is already expressive, with soft tannins and a saline edge, but this is a wine that routinely goes fifteen to twenty-five years.

Eloi Dürrbach planted the first vines here in 1973 on Provence's Alpilles limestone, creating what would become an iconic estate. His mantra—"the less you do, the wine"—still guides 15 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. His wife Floriane and their children continue the philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum integrity.

Tasting Profile

Blackcurrant, blackberry and violet with garrigue herbs, olive and a peppery Syrah lift. Full-bodied and firm, with ripe fine tannins, a saline streak and a long, fresh finish. Young.
