What is this wine?

Domaine du Collier is the project of Antoine Foucault, son of Charly Foucault of Clos Rougeard. Founded in 1999, the estate farms old-vine Cabernet Franc (and some Chenin Blanc) organically on Saumur’s limestone soils. La Ripaille is one of the domaine’s top red cuvées, sourced from old vines in a prime hillside vineyard. The 2008 is a rare library release, directly from the domaine’s cellars.

Why get this wine?

Domaine du Collier has become one of the Loire Valley’s most sought-after producers, known for profound, age-worthy Cabernet Franc that rivals the benchmark wines of Clos Rougeard. A library release from 2008 offers the rare chance to experience a perfectly aged expression, with the added confidence of ex-cellar provenance—an opportunity nearly impossible to find on the secondary market.

What does this wine taste like?

Mature Cabernet Franc with layered aromas of dried red fruits, tobacco leaf, graphite, and earthy spice. The palate is elegant and savory, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish.

When should you drink this wine?

This wine is fully mature and drinking beautifully now. Ideal for contemplative meals with roast lamb, game birds, or mushroom dishes. No need for extended cellaring, though it can hold another 5+ years if desired.
