Pierre-Marie Chermette is a fifth-generation Beaujolais grower who still does things the old way, no chaptalization, no added yeast, just traditional vinification that lets the terroir speak. Coeur de Vendanges is his Beaujolais bottling drawn from the heart of the harvest, and this 2016 has a decade of bottle age, giving a Gamay that has softened and gained savory depth. A back-vintage Beaujolais that shows even the regional wines from a serious traditionalist can age. From a private collection.

Pierre-Marie Chermette took over the family domain in 1982 and produces Beaujolais the traditional way: whole-cluster, semi-carbonic ferments in old foudres, no chaptalization or added yeast, aging in wood. His Fleurie 'Les Garants' is structured, dense, generous with black plum and cherry fruit. This is a fifth-generation grower with 100+ year-old vines, all under $20.
