Pierre-Marie Chermette is a fifth-generation Beaujolais grower who farms and vinifies the old-fashioned way, with no chaptalization and no added yeast, letting each cru's terroir come through cleanly. Brouilly is the largest and southernmost of the ten Beaujolais crus, and Pierreux is a named site here. This 2014 has a decade-plus of age, so its fruit has mellowed into something more savory and complex. A back-vintage cru Beaujolais from one of the region's great traditionalists, drinking well now. From a private collection.

Robert Parker

90 points

"From one of the ten crus in Beaujolais, the 2014 Brouilly Pierreux is lively and fresh, with lots of tart black cherry and black raspberry notes intermixed with plenty of spice, underbrush and damp earth. Medium-bodied, elegant, and structured with a tight, energetic vibe, it should drink nicely through at least 2022." —Jeb Dunnuck

More about Domaine du Vissoux (Pierre-Marie Chermette)

Pierre-Marie Chermette took over the family domain in 1982 and produces Beaujolais the traditional way: whole-cluster, semi-carbonic ferments in old foudres, no chaptalization or added yeast, aging in wood. His Fleurie 'Les Garants' is structured, dense, generous with black plum and cherry fruit. This is a fifth-generation grower with 100+ year-old vines, all under $20.
