2024 was hard enough in Vouvray that Huet bottled nothing but dry wine: the season never delivered the ripeness for the demi-secs and moelleux, so the whole crop went to Sec. Le Haut Lieu is the estate's founding vineyard, the parcel Victor Huet bought in 1928, sitting on the Premiere Cote on deeper, richer clay mixed with wind-blown sand, which makes it the most open and approachable of the domaine's three crus - Le Mont is the mineral one, Clos du Bourg the powerful one. Huet farmed biodynamically from 1990 and has been certified since 1993, decades before anyone else bothered, and the cellar team has run unbroken from Jean-Bernard Berthome to Benjamin Joliveau, a Vouvray native who worked alongside him for a decade. At 12.5% alcohol this is old-school Chenin, built on chalk and acidity rather than weight. The Haut Lieu is always the one to drink young, and this is no exception - though bottles like it are still being opened fifty years on.

Wine Spectator

91 points

"A fresh, salty, floral and expressive version, with a burst of lemony freshness behind its crunchy apple, nectarine and meadow blossom notes. Salty, tangy and savory, with subtle tones of warm spices, but this is mostly about freshness and savory purity."

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
