Aligoté is Burgundy's overlooked white grape—high acidity, citrus snap, mineral grip—and Roulot makes one of the finest examples in the region. This is the wine traditionally mixed with crème de cassis to make Kir, but drink it straight and you'll taste why that tradition exists: Roulot's version has the nervy energy and lemon-zest brightness to stand alone. A prestige producer's take on a humble grape shows that discipline costs nothing, even in entry-level bottles.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"The 2023 Bourgogne Aligoté, one-third matured in wood tank and two-thirds in stainless steel, has fine presence on the nose and gets both hands on the variety. The palate is well balanced with lime and lemon thyme notes alongside an endearing, slightly honeyed texture countered by sufficient tension on the finish. This is a delightful Aligoté from Jean-Marc Roulot that wears its heart on its sleeve." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"Already bottled, the 2023 Bourgogne Aligoté offers up notes of green apple, white flowers and sourdough bread, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and saline palate." —William Kelley

More about

The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"". When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his fathers success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.
