Santenay is Burgundy's best-kept secret for value—serious quality at prices that haven't caught up with its northern neighbors. Les Gravières is the appellation's most esteemed Premier Cru, its gravelly soils producing Pinot Noir of fresh red cherry and subtle earthy character. Simon Colin, based in neighboring Chassagne-Montrachet, brings a careful hand to this elegant wine. The 2023 drinks with the poise of more expensive Côte de Beaune Pinot—the kind that makes you question why Santenay remains so overlooked.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Santenay Les Gravières 1er Cru contains 10% whole bunch and underwent vinification intégrale. This has quite a bold bouquet with pressed violet notes infusing the red fruit. The palate is sweet, plush, slightly candied and rounded in texture, with a little less acidity than its peers on the finish. It's quite seductive, but more early drinking." —Neal Martin
