A geophysical engineer spent 20 years reading the earth, then switched to understanding grapes. Emmanuel Haget's debut from a tiny Loire parcel showcases Pineau d'Aunis—one of winemaking's rarest treasures, also called Chenin Noir. Eight days of skin maceration builds the wine's peppery, cherry-spiced character while indigenous yeasts and organic farming capture pure varietal identity. This 2024 is a snapshot of a winemaker learning an ancient grape on former biodynamic-pioneer vineyards in the Loire.

Unimpressive "natural" wine

Thin, too much volatile acidity, no finish.
