Mount Etna is Europe's most thrilling place to grow red wine—an active volcano where old vines cling to black sand and pumice at dizzying elevations. Eudes farms a few hectares of native, ungrafted vines here, some pushing a century in age, and bottles them with a light hand: no oak, just tank, letting the mountain speak. The result is Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio at their most transparent, all lift and minerality and volcanic salinity. Think of it as Sicily's answer to Burgundy, with lava in place of limestone. Etna reds this honest are the reason people fall down the volcanic rabbit hole.

"Distinctly floral and spicy, the 2021 Etna Rosso bursts from the glass with an array of dried roses, incense, white pepper, lavender and crushed wild blueberries. It’s juicy in character with zesty acidity and tart red and blue fruits that swirl throughout. Violet inner florals amass toward the close. The 2021 tapers off with an abundance of primary tension yet leaves the palate salivating with a lingering tinge of bitter blackberry. While I’d prefer this with a meal instead of on its own, this is a fantastic Etna Rosso to drink over the next three to five years." —Eric Guido
