Clos Ancestral is more than just a wine—it’s part of Familia Torres’ groundbreaking project to revive pre-phylloxera grape varieties once on the verge of extinction. Among the most promising is Forcada, a white variety native to northeastern Spain that delivers naturally high acidity and intense aromatics, even in a warming climate.

Planted in the cooler, elevated zones of Penedès, Forcada thrives on limestone-rich soils and Atlantic influences. The 2022 vintage showcases the grape’s unique profile: lemon zest, green melon, and wild herbs, framed by a mouthwatering mineral spine and a touch of leesy texture.

Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this is a wine that highlights purity and tension over ripeness, with a clean, linear profile that brings to mind Chablis or Galician whites, but with its own distinctly Mediterranean flair.

For fans of Godello, Albariño, or white Burgundy, this is an exciting new addition to the canon—a wine rooted in Catalonia’s past but perfectly suited for its future. Serve it with grilled fish, marinated vegetables, or fresh cheeses.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The 2022 Red Clos Ancestral combines 45% Moneu, 35% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha Negra, all sourced from Penedès. Sixty percent of the wine was aged for ten months in used barrels, and the Moneu spent the same time in amphorae. On the nose, it offers strawberry and cherry aromas along with a faintly leafy note. Dry and lean, the cleansing palate lingers with a saline, chalky texture. Delicious and thirst-quenching." -Joaquín Hidalgo

"The new bright-red 2022 Clos Ancestral has a primary nose, fruit driven, young and fresh, with notes of fruits of the forest and aromatic herbs. It was produced with a blend of the recovered Moneu grape with Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo) and Garnacha Tinta from a dry and warm year. It's a shame that the blend doesn't show the character of the mysterious Moneu, which is said to ripen slowly and keep moderate alcohol and good acidity, but that's lost in a blend. The wine is fresh and delicate, medium-bodied, approachable and elegant, but I'd like to see Moneu on its own... They produced 42,000 liters of this."
