Vacqueyras is Gigondas's less famous neighbor, which is exactly why it's worth your attention. Les Christins comes from eight hectares of tenant-farmed vines at Sarrians, south of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the Ouvèze valley, averaging 50 years old and farmed by the Beaucastel team on stony terraces of clay, sand and safres with full sun exposure. The blend is an even 50/50 of Grenache and Syrah, and the two are harvested, crushed and fermented together rather than blended after the fact — which is a big part of why the wine tastes seamless rather than assembled. After malolactic it spends a year in foudres and barrels. The 2023 came in ripe and concentrated but kept its freshness; drink it over the next five to ten years, and decant if you're opening one young.
