Tawny Port aged the proper way: in wood, for an average of twenty years. Where Vintage Port is bottled young and sealed up to age, Tawny spends its life in cask, slowly oxidizing and concentrating into something nutty, mellow and golden-brown. Fonseca is one of the great Port houses, and their 20 Year Old shows the style at its best, all dried fruit and caramel with a fresh nutty lift. Serve it lightly chilled, and unlike Vintage Port there's no sediment and no decanting required. A bottle stays good for weeks after opening.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Dried fruits and nuts on the nose. Fuller and more saline than the 10-year-old; gives an impression of stronger extract. Both fruitier and lighter on its feet than the 10-year-old. Nutty, mellow and elegant." —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

92 points

"The NV 20 Year Old Tawny Porto is darker and broader than the Taylor's, more powerful and concentrated, rounder and juicier. It is a blend of younger and older Ports aged for an average of 20 years in wood with a slow oxidation that gave it a brownish color and a nutty nose, while keeping some red fruit character. It has the voluptuous and rich Fonseca style. It is a very recent bottling from 2026." —Luis Gutiérrez

Decanter

95 points

"A candied style showing mounting richness behind scents of dried fig, caramel, toffee and cream. Multi-layered on the palate, with mouth-filling grapiness and balancing citrus."

Wine Spectator

93 points

"Bright and fresh in feel, with dried white peach, jasmine and praline notes streaming through, backed by light hazelnut and pecan accents on the racy finish."

Wine Enthusiast

94 points

"This gorgeous Port is at the perfect stage where there are still freshness and hints of orange and dried fruit, while the wood aging is concentrating the wine into its essence."

More about Fonseca

Fonseca Guimaraens has been making Port since 1815, and their Bin 27 is the best-selling Port in America and still the reference standard for Ruby Reserve. They control three Quintas in the Douro Valley, each contributing to the house's distinctive dry-fruit style. Whether it's a young Bin 27 or aged tawny, Fonseca Port is reliable, elegant, and built for actual drinking.
