Chassagne-Montrachet is world-famous for its whites, so its reds fly under the radar, and that's exactly where the value hides. Clos Saint-Jean sits on the slope right above the village, on red, Cote de Nuits-like soil that yields lifted, mineral-driven Pinot Noir. Fontaine-Gagnard works old vines here, and this is typically the most charming and forward of the domaine's premier cru reds. The warm 2018 vintage brought ripe, generous fruit and silky tannins, so it's already delicious while keeping enough freshness to reward a few years in the cellar. A red Chassagne that punches well above its reputation.
