Franck Balthazar’s Cornas “Chaillot” comes from old Syrah vines on granite terraces in the Chaillot lieu-dit, farmed organically and ploughed by horse. The 2022 vintage delivers deep dark fruit, lifted aromatics, and firm mineral structure—classic Cornas with purity and power.

Fermented whole-cluster with native yeasts and aged 18 months in neutral demi-muids, without fining, filtration, or added sulfur. A benchmark expression of traditional, terroir-driven Cornas.

Vivid violet, ripe black fruit, licorice, cedar and stemmy elements are all pushed forward. Fleshy subtleties add more complexity. Primarily from vines planted in 1914 in Chaillot, plus a small amount from old vines planted in Les Mazards.

Viticulture
Franck eliminated the usage of artificial herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers by 2010 and works many parcels with horse to this day.
Vinification
Up to 100% whole clusters are employed, and macerations last ~2 weeks with regular manul cap punchdowns. Fermentations start with indigenous yeast and the wines receive a light fining before bottling. Sulfur usage is kept to a minimum for all cuvées.

Aged for 18+ months in old 600L barrels
