Antonio Galloni

96 points

"Vajra’s 2008 Barolo Bricco delle Viole has always been gorgeous. It is all that and more on this night. A bit more polished around the edges than the Rinaldi, the Vajra nevertheless remains faithful to the style of the year. The purity of the sculpted fruit and lifted aromatics is compelling. I also noted a bit more textural weight than in the past. What a wine!" —Antonio Galloni

Jancis Robinson

17 points

"Healthy-looking just mid ruby. Compact, sweet concentration on the nose. Very closed. Wonderful concentration on the palate, underlined by austere, muscular tannins. A little tough at the moment, and not approachable for some time. Very long." —Walter Speller

Wine Spectator

92 points

"A pungent, sweet sawdust nose is followed by candied cherry in this light-weight yet intense Barolo. The raspberry and cherry fruit emerges with air. Displays fine structure, showing freshness and length. Best from 2017 through 2035."

Wine Enthusiast

88 points

"This opens with jammy aromas of blackberry and strawberry followed by a streamlined feel on the palate. It delivers a firm wall of young tannins that need more time to age."

More about G.D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra traces back to 1968, when Aldo Vajra inherited his grandparents' farm in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo. He was a pioneer of organic viticulture in Piedmont—certified in 1971, decades before it became fashionable. His Langhe Nebbiolo showcases the grape at its most approachable, fermented naturally, aged in neutral oak.
