This beloved family estate farms the highest, coolest reaches of the Barolo commune around the hamlet of Vergne, and their Langhe Nebbiolo is your ticket into the grape without waiting a decade for it to open. Grown high in Barolo's far west and aged in neutral oak, it's tar and roses in miniature: fresh, floral, and perfumed, with raspberry fruit and a savory, earthy finish. The 2025 arrives bright and open-knit, ready to drink straight away, though a couple of years in the cellar won't hurt it. G.D. Vajra traces back to 1968, when Aldo Vajra inherited his grandparents' farm in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo. He was a pioneer of organic viticulture in Piedmont—certified in 1971, decades before it became fashionable. His Langhe Nebbiolo showcases the grape at its most approachable, fermented naturally, aged in neutral oak.
