Georg Breuer, Rüdesheim Berg Roseneck Riesling Trocken, 2017
Georg Breuer, Rüdesheim Berg Roseneck Riesling Trocken, 2017 is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
This 2017 Rüdesheim Berg Roseneck dry Riesling—now eight years old—shows mature complexity: citrus with subtle stone fruit, mineral definition, and the elegance that Rheingau terroir and traditional winemaking deliver. Ready now or age another 5-7 years.
"The 2017 Riesling Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck is always a late release; the 2017 is the current vintage. It is bottled the year following the harvest but only sold with bottle age. The 2013 vintage was the first to be held back for late release. There are no rules, the 2018 came out in 2022. This year sees the release of 2017. The nose is imbued with a hint of petrol that soon verges into lemon-pervaded beeswax and dried lemon peel. The lemon lift almost has a sinus-clearing vividness; later, wet and dry hay notes complete the picture. The palate brings the same unfrilly honesty: there is something naked and bright about the clean-cut palate with edges of earthy yeast and subtle beeswax. Its texture, however, is strait-laced, clean-cut, concentrated and incisive with vivid stony-earthy depth. It is alluring in a self-possessed, self-evident way with yeasty richness and lemony length. (Bone-dry). 95pts" — Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous
Representing 130+ years of Rheingau winemaking and history, the estate was renamed after Georg Breuer (1910-1982), who built its international reputation. Georg's son Bernhard was a key member of Charta, promoting the "new" drier Rheingau style and reintroducing vineyard names and designations. His sudden passing at only 58 years old left the family domaine in the hands of his then-20-year-old daughter Theresa. For over 20 years she has continued to strive for excellence, applying subtle changes throughout her tenure, including organic methods to their farming in 2010 and reintroducing the use of large wooden barrels for aging, all while continuing to produce wines of exceptional clarity and precision.

WINE GUIDES
German Wines
Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
