For the first time ever, as a part of our much-anticipated annual Skurnik Austria & Germany Direct Import Sale wines, we are popping bottles.

The sale kicks off August 15 and runs through August 29 (so watch your inboxes!). In the past when we've written this massive offer, we've spent most of the writing process wishing that we could open these bottles for all of you and show you just how special they really are. So this year, with the help of the Skurnik team, that's exactly what we're doing.

During the live sale, on Tuesday, August 19, we are hosting Skurnik's Germany and Austria team on the mezzanine from 5:30-7:30pm as they feature some of your very favorite producers, and showcase for you some of the great wines that are included in the offer. Taste before you buy, then enjoy special pricing on all featured wines as well as a store credit as part of your ticket.

Because the 2024 vintage was light on quantity (though not quality––stay tuned for our report), we are supplementing with some fabulous 2023s that are tasting really, really good right now. But don't take our word for it.

This is one of the most ambitious tasting events we've done, in both breadth (we plan to open more than 40 wines) and depth as we showcase some of the very best producers in Skurnik's star-studded portfolio. Featured producers will include:

Germany
A.J. Adam
Dönnhoff
Schloss Liser
Loewen
Selbach-Oster
Knewitz
Breuer
Dr. Bürklin Wolf
Ziereisen

Austria
Alzinger
Bründlmayer
Schloss Gobelsburg
Hirsch
Hiedler
Ott
Prieler
Reinisch
Hannah Glatzer

The cost of this seminar is $60 and a $20 credit at the store will be extended to each guest for a future purchase. Space is limited and special pricing on the featured wines will be made available as a part of our Austria & Germany DI Sale. We hope you can join us on the mezzanine from 5:30 to 7:30pm on Tuesday, August 19 for this special evening.

Lunch with Anthony Lynch, and the wine that stole the show.

Anthony Lynch (son of legendary importer Kermit Lynch) came to New York last week and brought a few special bottles from their Berkeley cellar to lunch, including 2007 Vacqueyras Le Sang des Cailloux and Thierry Allemand’s 2005 Cornas Reynard. But the surprise winner with the food was a Corsican red, the 2020 Antoine Arena Patrimonio Rouge, "Morta Maio.”

Luxury Burgundy Wine for All: Lafarge's Iconic Passetoutgrains

Perhaps the only thing we love more than Burgundy Pinot Noir is Burgundy Pinot Noir blended with Gamay, a style of wine known as Passetoutgrains. The best examples combine the elegance and structure of Pinot Noir with the playful, juicy character of Gamay — truly the best of both worlds.
