If you remember your first taste of Foillard, you remember the thrill of a living, no-makeup Beaujolais. Jean Foillard, one of Kermit Lynch's original "Gang of Four," makes his Fleurie from old-vine Gamay on pink granite, fermented semi-carbonically with native yeast and almost no sulfur. The 2015 came from a warm, ripe, generous vintage, so this is the lusher, more fruit-forward side of his Fleurie. A few years of bottle age have rounded it into a wine that's both serious and simple — pure drinking pleasure.

Robert Parker

"The 2015 Fleurie has a generous, open-knit bouquet with mineral-driven red cherries, fennel and blackcurrant leaf aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin. It feels very fresh in the mouth with just a hint of menthol furnishing the harmonious finish. It represents one of the most delicious offerings from Alexandre Foillard at the moment." —Neal Martin

More about Jean Foillard

Jean Foillard is a natural-wine icon and charter member of Beaujolais' legendary 'gang of four'—those who answered Jules Chauvet's call to refuse pesticides, chaptalisation, and filtration. For half a century, his 14 organically farmed hectares have produced Morgon from the famed Côte du Py, with its roches pourries (rotten rock) of decomposed granite and schist. His wines are serious, lush, and utterly unforgettable.
