From one of the Gang of Four. Jean Foillard — alongside Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Guy Breton — is part of the legendary Beaujolais quartet who answered Jules Chauvet's call to refuse pesticides, chaptalization, and sulfur. Foillard has been at the helm since 1980 and his Morgons are now among the most coveted wines in the natural-wine world. Corcelette is a single-vineyard cuvée from a sandy-soiled site in the higher reaches of Morgon, with vines averaging 80 years old — softer in style than the powerful Côte du Py, but layered, mineral, and refined. The 2021 vintage was small (frost, cool spring), and the wine reflects that — a leaner, more chiseled Corcelette, taut and tense, made with the full Foillard method: whole-cluster, native yeast, neutral oak, no filtration.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The 2021 Morgon Cuvée Corcelette comes from vines averaging 50-years in age, this vineyard suffering less reduction in volume than others due to the sandy soils. It is aged in used barrels for around 9 months. It has a quite compelling and complex bouquet, with raspberry and wild strawberry, rose petal and light chalky scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, finely chiseled and lending tension. The acidity keeps this taut, focused, and quite minerally towards the leaner-than-usual finish. There's moderate length with fine salinity. Bon vin." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"The 2021 Morgon Corcelette wafts from the glass with aromas of tangy raspberries, cranberries, Indian spices, iodine, rose petals and green peppercorns, with a sheath of volatile acidity. The medium-bodied palate features a keen structure of tart acids and youthful, grainy tannins, further tightened by its slate-like minerality and tied together with a sharp, stony finish. It has good finesse but is just a hare too taut for my preference." —Kenna Wells

More about Jean Foillard

Jean Foillard is a natural-wine icon and charter member of Beaujolais' legendary 'gang of four'—those who answered Jules Chauvet's call to refuse pesticides, chaptalisation, and filtration. For half a century, his 14 organically farmed hectares have produced Morgon from the famed Côte du Py, with its roches pourries (rotten rock) of decomposed granite and schist. His wines are serious, lush, and utterly unforgettable.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

A classic Lyonnais match — roast chicken, charcuterie, duck confit, mushroom tart — and also brilliant with grilled salmon, herb-crusted lamb, or a board of soft-rind cheeses.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied with raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petal, and chalky minerality. Pliant tannins frame a finely chiseled palate with bright acidity, light salinity, and a taut, mineral-driven finish.
