From the gravelly En Croisette site at the foot of Gevrey-Chambertin, this is village Burgundy from a grower who came to wine the hard way. Jerome Galeyrand had no family vines; he learned the trade with Alain Burguet and built his organic, biodynamic domaine plot by tiny plot. The 2015 vintage was warm and generous, giving Gevrey reds with riper fruit and rounder texture than his cooler-year bottlings. With several years in bottle it's approachable now, though the structure of the vintage means there's no rush.

"The 2015 Côte de Nuits Villages Les Retraits maybe does not deliver quite the same precision as the 2014 at this point. The palate is well balanced with sappy blackberry pastilles and raspberry. The finish is quite lively with decent matière. Hopefully the nose will improve with another few months in bottle." —Neal Martin
