Domaine Barge, Cote Rotie Coeur de Combard, 2019
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Julien Barge is carrying on a legacy that stretches back generations, but Cœur de Combard feels anything but stuck in the past. From steep, schist-laced vineyards in the Combard lieu-dit (on the Brune side of the appellation), this 2019 bottling is both deeply traditional and vibrantly alive. Whole cluster fermentation, aging in old oak, no flash—just site, Syrah, and time.
It’s a wine that opens in layers. The first impression is all perfume: violets, smoked herbs, and crushed blackberries. Then the savory elements start to show—black olive, iron, and cured meat, with that distinctive Côte-Rôtie lift that comes from stem inclusion and fine, rocky tannins. It’s structured, but never heavy. Powerful, but always vertical.
Drink it now with air, or let it stretch its legs over the next 10–15 years. For lovers of classic Northern Rhône—Rostaing, Levet, Jamet—Barge’s Cœur de Combard belongs firmly in the conversation.
