This is the Dauvissat approach to Chablis, from vines right next to the Dauvissat premier crus, made in a different cellar under a different name. Years ago the Dauvissats bought village Chablis vineyards beside their own premier cru parcels so their children could become growers. Laurent Tribut married Marie-Clotilde, daughter of René Dauvissat and sister of Vincent, and the couple used those vines to do exactly that. The cellar and vineyards are their own, but the approach is essentially the same as at the Dauvissats'. The couple live a few miles from Vincent Dauvissat, in a big restored farmhouse with vines out back. They make very little wine. Their daughter Solange has begun taking over much of the winemaking, so the family line carries on into another generation. If you love Dauvissat's style but rarely see a bottle, this is the insider's way in.

If you find a remarkable similarity in the style and structure of Laurent Tribut's wines with those of Vincent Dauvissat, it is not a coincidence. The link is Vincent's sister, Marie-Clotilde who happens to be married to Laurent. Together they make very small amounts of wines from some distinct terroirs.

The cellar and the vineyards are different, but the approach is very much the same as you find up the street at the Dauvissats. If it isn't broken, why fix it! These days Laurent and Marie-Clotilde's daughter Solange has begun taking over much of the wine making, and she is continuing the tradition of excellence that her family is now famous for.
