A high-altitude white from an under-the-radar corner of northern Portugal better known for sparkling wine. Les a Les farms 25-year-old vines at roughly 700 meters on granite slopes above the Rio Tedo, a Douro tributary, just outside the famous Douro boundary and cool enough to keep everything tense and bright. It's an even split of Cerceal Branco and Malvasia Fina, two grapes you rarely meet on their own, whole-bunch pressed and aged ten months on the lees in stainless steel with no oak. The payoff is a mineral, smoky white with real structure and years of upside. One for the curious drinker who's already worked through the usual suspects.
