What is this wine?
Maximin Grünhaus, owned by the von Schubert family, is one of the great estates of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. The monopole estate includes three celebrated vineyards: Abtsberg, Herrenberg, and Bruderberg. Abtsberg is the crown jewel, a steep, blue-slate slope long prized for its finesse and longevity. The 2023 Kabinett is made from carefully selected Riesling, fermented with native yeasts, and bottled with a touch of residual sugar in the classic Mosel Kabinett style.

Why get this wine?
Abtsberg Kabinett is one of Germany’s most iconic wines, balancing low alcohol, bright fruit, and crystalline minerality with an elegance that only this site can deliver. It’s refreshing enough for casual sipping yet structured enough to age for decades. For Mosel Riesling lovers, this is a benchmark bottle at the perfect intersection of pedigree, pleasure, and value.

What does this wine taste like?
Delicately sweet and feather-light, with lime, green apple, and white peach wrapped in floral notes and slatey minerality. The racy acidity balances the gentle sweetness, giving it focus and lift.

When should you drink this wine?
Lovely now for its vibrancy, but capable of developing honeyed, smoky complexity over 15–20 years. Pair with spicy Asian dishes, smoked trout, or simply enjoy as an aperitif.

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
