This is the Miani Sauvignon with no vineyard name on the label, which at this address still means hand-worked ponca hillsides in Friuli's Colli Orientali and yields cut to almost nothing. Enzo Pontoni does not appear to own a setting other than maximum. Expect Sauvignon in the Miani register: ripe rather than green, savory rather than grassy, with yellow stone fruit, herbs, a chalky mineral streak and a finish that hangs around far longer than the category usually allows. Barrel raising here builds texture, not oak flavor. The 2024 is a baby, so give it a large glass, only a light chill, and plenty of air. Quantities are tiny, as they always are here.

More about Miani

Enzo Pontoni founded Miani in 1985 and capped production at fewer than 700 cases per year. His Sauvignon Blancs command a cult following—rare, expensive, impossible to find. The soil is ponca: layers of calcareous clay and sandstone. The approach is obsessive. This is what happens when a grower refuses to compromise or scale up.
