We are excited to announce a visit from Nicolas Jaboulet on Wednesday, October 9 for a seminar exploring the Northern Rhône through the lens of Maisons & Domaines Les Alexandrins. This estate is led by three friends combining the savoir-faire they learned from their parents and grandparents with an historic terroir: Nicolas Jaboulet, sixth generation of a winegrowing family in Tain l’Hermitage since 1834; Guillaume Sorrel, son of Marc Sorrel of Domaine Sorrel in Hermitage; and Alexandre Caso, specialist in the terroirs of the Northern Rhône.

Nicolas will take us through their lineup of Northern Rhône bottlings as he shares his next-generation perspective on the legacy and future of this iconic region.

In 2012, Nicolas Jaboulet was the head of Maison Nicolas Perrin. Guillaume Sorrel and Alexandre Caso were working together on the Domaine they founded, Domaine Les Alexandrins in Mercurol. They came together and began working parcel-by-parcel in Crozes-Hermitage for the wines of Maison Nicolas Perrin. Their shared knowledge of the terroir, of the wines that have marked the history of the Northern Rhône Valley, and their appreciation of the great wines of their region quickly inspired them to go even further together.

The estate produces wine in the Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph appellations, from vines planted on historic terroirs. Worked parcel by parcel, their holdings include more than 70-year-old Syrah vines of Crozes-Hermitage and a parcel of almost-forgotten, 90-year-old vines in Tournon for the Saint-Joseph wines.

Light bites will be served. Class starts at 6pm. Tickets are $40, and include a $20 store credit. Seating is extremely limited, and special pricing on the featured wines will be made available only to attendees. We hope you can join us for this exclusive event.

Baricchi Timorasso: A Gorgeous Piedmont White, After 10 Years Aging

The 2014 Cascina Baricchi Timorraso “Ca Va Sans Dire” is a total showstopper. It comes from a vineyard planted in the 1950s on clay and limestone soils. It spent the first 6 months of its life in stainless steel tanks with regular stirring of the lees. It was then moved to neutral barriques where it rested for a whopping nine years before bottling.

Ancient Vines & Great Terroir Collide in Antonio Madeira's Old Vine Blend

This is an “entry level” wine on a whole other level, a wine from another time. Antonio Madeira's vines are 50 to over 100 years old. Vinhas hella Velhas, if you get right down to it. Even wackier, it’s a field blend of more than 20 varieties. The farming and winemaking are super old-fashioned too: organic, even biodynamic work in the vines and minimal interventions in the winery.

Sulauze's Joyful "Charbonnières" Shows a Lighter Side of Provence

You’d be forgiven for thinking of Domaine de Sulauze as a rosé domaine — after all, it’s in the heartland of French rosé, Provence, and its Pomponette rosé is one of our best-selling pink wines. But this slice of biodynamic paradise churns out stunning red wines, too.
