Grown just a few miles from the Pacific on marine shale and ancient seabed, Bassi Vineyard gives Outward the raw material for a pét-nat that’s far from your average glou-glou. Fermented naturally and bottled before fermentation finishes, this 2023 Pinot Gris is lightly sparkling, unfiltered, and deeply rooted in coastal California.

Expect more saline than sweet—zippy acidity, a whisper of skin contact texture, and a fine bead of fizz that lifts rather than dominates. There’s stone fruit, yes, but also sea spray, citrus pith, and a kind of savory clarity that feels more mineral than fruity.

It’s pét-nat with intention: made to refresh, but also to speak. Chill it well, pop it outdoors, and don’t be surprised if the last glass is the best one.
