A second label given first-label treatment: 28 months in barrel and another three in bottle before release, drawn from eight Columbia Valley sites including DuBrul, Klipsun, Phinny Hill and Stone Tree, spread across Red Mountain, Horse Heaven Hills, the Wahluke Slope and Walla Walla. Cabernet Sauvignon leads with Merlot and Syrah behind it, the Syrah raised separately in 600-liter puncheons to fill out the mid-palate. The label belongs to Kyle MacLachlan, a Yakima native who started Pursued by Bear in 2005 and named it for Shakespeare's stage direction in The Winter's Tale; Dan Wampfler makes the wines, and the Bear Cub line launched in 2016. 2022 was Washington's stop-start vintage, with an April blizzard setting bud break back two to three weeks, real heat mid-summer and an unusually warm October that rescued the finish, and the reds came in fresher and more lifted than that sounds. Ready to drink now with an hour of air.
