Racines, the collaboration between Burgundian masters Étienne de Montille and Brian Sieve and Santa Barbara’s Justin Willett, has quickly become one of the most exciting names in California Chardonnay. Their Wenzlau Family Vineyard bottling comes from a rugged, organically farmed site in the Santa Rita Hills, where steep slopes and relentless Pacific winds create a Chardonnay of remarkable tension and depth. The 2021 vintage, shaped by a long, even growing season, highlights the vineyard’s signature combination of power and precision.

Meyer lemon, crisp pear, and wet stone lead the way, unfolding into layers of toasted hazelnut and subtle spice. The palate is electric yet refined, with bright acidity cutting through a creamy, well-integrated texture. A long, saline-driven finish hints at the wine’s aging potential, though its balance makes it irresistible even now. Pair with oysters, roasted poultry, or anything rich that begs for a streak of mineral-driven freshness. A serious, terroir-driven Chardonnay that channels the best of both Burgundy and California.
