These wines aren't made, they're unearthed. Rose & Arrow hunts down rare threads of ancient volcanic rock in Oregon, and this Chardonnay comes from a tiny piece of basalt within the Eola Springs vineyard, yielding just a sliver of production. Founded by Mark Tarlov and Burgundy's Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, the project now runs on terroir expert Pedro Parra's soil mapping and winemaker Felipe Ramirez's wild-yeast, oxygen-rich approach. The result is crystalline and precise, all about tension and stone rather than richness. The 2022 is a serious, mineral-driven Chardonnay for fans of cool-climate whites.

"A nicely balanced whiff of reduction blows off to reveal ginger-spiked green apples, pine shavings and mint as the 2022 Chardonnay Eola Springs blossoms in the glass. The 2022 impresses further with its silken nature, offset by a stimulating core of tart orchard fruits, minerals and lime. It tapers off with dramatic length and gentle structure, leaving a tart citrus resonance and the slightest hint of almond custard that adds enriching depth. Beautifully executed." —Eric Guido
