"Schiefergestein"—slate stone. Sourced exclusively from Bockenauer Felseneck (90% blue slate, 10% quartzite), this estate-level wine behaves like a "baby GG" of the site. The same 60-65 year-old vines on steep slopes, the same wild yeast fermentation, but released at a more accessible price point. Tim Fröhlich's slate-focused counterpart to the volcanic Vulkangestein. "The 2024 Riesling Schiefergestein is from up to 35-year-old vines in the Bockenauer Felseneck. Moss, lichen and herbal savor add beautiful lift on the nose. The palate has a gorgeous backdrop that is almost like licking slate. Lemon and lichen notes merely add perfume to this stony monument that is superbly svelte and bright yet so buffered.
