Classic, age-worthy Gevrey-Chambertin from a domaine renowned for old vines, low yields, and the confident use of new oak. Serafin Pere et Fils, long led by Christian Serafin and now his daughter Karine and niece Frederique, farms barely five hectares but punches well above it, making structured, concentrated reds built to age. This Le Fonteny Premier Cru sits on the cooler, higher slopes of Gevrey, giving a wine with both power and lift. The 2010 was a beautiful, classically structured Burgundy vintage, and this bottle is now drinking in its prime, rich, deep, and savory.

"Reduction completely dominates the nose but it does not extend to the rich, round and relatively suave middle weight flavors that enjoy fine mid-palate concentration. There is excellent volume with really lovely delineation as well as a real sense of underlying tension on the lightly mineral-inflected, dusty, sappy and superbly long finish. This beauty is very Gevrey but not rustic."

"Good medium red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, minerals and smoked meat. Juicy, sappy and intense, with sharply delineated if youthfully imploded flavors of red berries and spices. Boasts superb intensity and cut, and lovely acid spine, yet comes across as rather feminine in style thanks to its outstanding fruit. The sappy, highly perfumed finishing flavors spread out to saturate the palate. Serafin describes his 2010s as 'full bodied-wines that will need long aging. Two thousand ten is a great year for its combination of power and ageability.'" —Vinous

"The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys is strikingly beautiful. A rich fabric of dark red fruit flows effortlessly as this gracious wine opens up in the glass. The balance of fruit, acidity and structure is very nicely done."
