Nebbiolo in Mendoza, made by a crew who treat Argentina as open ground for every grape nobody expected to find there. Eduardo Soler founded Ver Sacrum in 2012 and built the range on Rhone and Italian varieties instead of Malbec — Grenache, Monastrell, Carignan, Marsanne, Mencia — all from the high Uco Valley district of Los Chacayes. Everything is hand-harvested and foot-crushed, fermented with native yeasts and bottled without corrections or filtration, and the house style runs deliberately fresh and light on alcohol. "La Dama del Abrigo Rojo" means the lady in the red coat, and it is the darkest, most substantial wine they make: the one cuvee that gets real skin contact, yet it still comes out perfumed rather than heavy. If you love Langhe Nebbiolo for its rose-and-tar lift rather than its weight, this is that same shape of wine from the other side of the world.
