“Azelia remains one of the undiscovered jewels in Barolo.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Lorenzo Scavino is a farmer winemaker working at his family's winery Azelia in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo region in Piedmont. We are excited to announce that Lorenzo is joining us on the mezzanine on Monday, April 28 at 6pm for a masterclass on the wines of his family's estate.
After his elementary and middle education, at the age of 14 Lorenzo decided to attend the Oenological School in Alba, the most prestigious wine school in Italy. During his 6 years of study, he had the opportunity to have numerous experiences at other wineries both in France and Spain. In 2010, Lorenzo graduated summa cum laude and since then has been working full time with his family at his estate Azelia, participating in every step of the process, from the work in the vineyards to the winemaking and sales management in Italy and globally.
Growing up as an only child and representing the 5th generation of wine producers, he felt that starting to work closely to his father Luigi, who has already experienced close to 50 harvests with a unique expertise, was the best opportunity to grab. Together with his entire family, Lorenzo is devoted to producing top quality wines, respecting the tradition and the very hard work of his ancestors who founded the winery over a century ago, back in 1920.
In addition to his passion about wine, Lorenzo enjoys gastronomy, working out when not in the vineyards, swimming and cooking. Lorenzo will share with us the beautiful wines of Azelia and his family's story.
The cost of this seminar is $40 and a $20 credit at the store will be extended to each guest for a future purchase. Seating is limited and special pricing on the featured wines will be made available only to attendees. We hope you can join us on the mezzanine at 6pm on Monday, April 28 for this special evening.
Trediberri, founded only in 2007, is one of the newest producers in the entire Barolo DOC. Yet their wines taste so utterly classical and traditional that you would never guess. The wines feel like they've been around for generations.
Domaine Michel Lafarge is one of Burgundy’s great names, a true superstar in the pantheon of the region’s best estates.
They make very traditional Volnays that last a long, long time, are very limited, and are very expensive. But they also make some less exalted wines, which we affectionately call their “baby” wines.
The first time we tasted Pierre Girardin’s wines, we were floored. They had that rare mix of taut structure, subtle reduction, and soaring energy, all wrapped in a texture that whispered top-tier white Burgundy. When we learned the winemaker behind them was still in his 20s, we were stunned. These were wines with the quiet confidence of a seasoned pro, not a newcomer still finding his voice.
