Thursday, January 11: "What Does California Taste Like?" With Martha Stoumen (SOLD OUT)
Tuesday, January 16: Chablis Masterclass with Domaine Pinson
We are so excited to welcome Charlène and Laurent Pinson of the great Domaine Pinson to the shop for a masterclass on Chablis on Tuesday, January 16 at 6pm.
In a region so steeped in history (and prehistory) as Chablis, Domaine Pinson stands out, having farmed in this famous village since 1640, making them one of the oldest families in the entire appellation. Today, the domaine is run by the dynamic Charlène Pinson and her father Laurent. They own 14 hectares of the crème de la crème of Chablis terroir, with prime holdings in six premier crus and the grandest cru of them all, Les Clos.
This father-daughter team are great stewards of their famed parcels, never using any herbicides or pesticides in the vineyards, and working with organic methods to express these limestone-laden sites. Charlène and Laurent follow no dogma, only using experience to determine the best approach to express their terroir. It is an intuitive process, one which results in a stunning display of intense purity across the Domaine Pinson range, seamlessly marrying the historical grandeur found in Kimmeridgian marl and the noble Chardonnay of Burgundy.
Tickets are $40 and $20 of the cost will be converted to a gift card. We hope you can join us on Tuesday, January 16 at 6pm on our mezzanine for this intimate educational event. Get tickets now.
January 30: Discover Catalonia (taught by Julia Burke, DWSET)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Fresh off a trip to the spectacular region of Catalonia, Julia couldn't be more excited to share a lineup with you that shows off the rich history and exciting future of this incredibly diverse region. We'll examine the ins and outs (and politics) of Catalonia's dynamic sparkling wine industry as well as its wide-ranging still wines with a lineup that will have you pining for the Penedès. From Cava and Corpinnat to minerally, rich white wines and powerful reds from Priorat, this region truly has something for everyone.
Taught by Flatiron's own Julia Burke, DWSET, this class will begin at 6:00pm on Tuesday, January 30 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Wines tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited. Get tickets now.
January Walk-Around Tastings
Monday, January 29: Pairing Art and Wine with Artist Fernando Ramirez
Recently featured at Mystique Unveiled at the Newsroom, our very own Fernando Ramirez is a talented oil painter inspired by the classic artists of the Renaissance and and Baroque periods. And because he's also great to hang out with, we talked him into a little Wine and Art night on the mezzanine.
Fernando will share some of his favorite recent paintings, the inspirations behind them and his process as you taste wines paired with each piece, selected by classics lover JR Thomason and weird pairings lover Julia Burke. Light bites will be served. This is one of the most unique sensory experiences we've offered yet and we can't wait to explore the magic and fun of wine pairing, beyond flavor alone.
We hope you can join us Monday night, January 29 on our mezzanine from 5:30 to 7:30pm for this celebration of classical art and the art of wine. Get tickets now.
