Old-school Cornas from a beloved traditionalist whose cellar sits beneath his house in the village. Marcel Juge makes barely 150 cases of 100% Syrah a year, hand-harvested from steep granite hillsides, fermented whole-cluster under a submerged cap, aged in old demi-muids and bottled without filtration. The 2011 was a vintage of balance in the Northern Rhone, fresher and more red-fruited, emphasizing terroir over sheer ripeness. The result is a more approachable, perfumed Juge that still carries the village's savory backbone. Decant and enjoy on the earlier side.

More about Marcel Juge

Marcel Juge was an icon of Cornas, making small quantities of beautifully expressive Syrah in a little cellar beneath his home. His wines were gentler and more perfumed than Cornas's brawny reputation suggests, yet built to age for decades. The 2015 is believed to be among his final releases, and he passed away in 2019. Any bottle that surfaces now is a rare taste of old Cornas.
