Cornas from a sixth-generation vigneronne carrying one of the appellation's most legendary names into a new era. Emmanuelle Verset is one of only two women running a domaine in Cornas, and she farms inherited plots of ancient vines in storied sites like Champelrose, Les Mazards, and Reynard, with an average vine age around 60 years and some over a century old. The granite hillsides here, baked by Northern Rhone sun, give Syrah extraordinary intensity, and Emmanuelle works it traditionally: 100% whole-cluster fermentation, no new oak, organic farming with cover crops. The 2023 is a generous, sturdy vintage. This is serious, savory Cornas that rewards a few hours in a decanter now and will reward patience over the next decade-plus.

Decanter

93 points

"Medium-depth purple colouring. It’s certainly ripe, with some slightly dried- or confit-berry notes and a touch of cassis. It has a good sense of freshness and acidity, with a certain earthiness to the tannins and finish. It’s structured with fairly big tannins, which will be good in time. Typically matured in three- to 10-year-old barrels; 9,000 bottles made."

More about A

Emmanuelle Verset walked away from easier paths and came home to Cornas at 24 to take over her family's vines, now working alongside her dad Alain. Their vineyard is anchored by the legendary La Geynale, where some vines top 100 years old—inherited from her great-uncle Noël, a name that still moves wine people to reverent whispers. She's gone full organic, uses 100% whole cluster fermentation, and blends five lieux-dits into wines that taste like they're made of stone and time and pure intention.
