Albert Morot is one of Beaune's great traditional addresses, family-run since 1820 and built on a core of seven hectares of premier cru vineyards within the town's walls. Les Toussaints is a small parcel here, and the wine is made the old way: hand-harvested, fully destemmed, native-yeast fermentations in open vats. The 2010 is a benchmark vintage for the Cote de Beaune — fresh, structured, built for the long haul — and now, with fifteen years behind it, it's moving into its mature prime. This is classic, properly cellared Beaune premier cru from a domaine that never chases trends.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Bright medium red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, licorice and stone. Sweet, supple and rather pliant, albeit with a slightly medicinal dark fruit character dominating. Lovely depth and subtle sweetness here. Finishes firmly tannic, with sneaky length and very good vinosity." —Stephen Tanzer

More about Albert Morot

Albert Morot is a quietly classic Beaune address: two centuries of history, about eight hectares built around a string of premier cru vineyards, and the kind of red Burgundy that rewards patience. It is now entering a new chapter.

The house was founded in Beaune in 1820 as a négociant. In the late 19th century the family built a château and cellars in the park of La Creusotte, where the domaine still works. Later generations gave up the négoce to concentrate on their own vines. Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry, who studied agronomy at Montpellier, took over from his aunt in 2000, moved the vineyards to organic farming and modernized the cellar. In 2023 the estate was bought by the family group of Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal, who brought in the northern Rhône winemaker Pierre-Jean Villa to run it.

The heart of the domaine is a run of Beaune premiers crus: Bressandes, Grèves, Teurons, Marconnets, Cent-Vignes, Toussaints and, for white, Aigrots. Alongside them is La Bataillère, a premier cru monopole in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Under Choppin de Janvry the grapes were fully destemmed, fermented in steel and bottled without fining or filtration. The result is traditional Beaune in the best sense: fresh, structured and built to age.
