Montefico is Roagna's smallest and most elusive vineyard—a tiny parcel acquired in 1929, now planted with vines over 50 years old. Located in northwest Barbaresco with marl-rich soil, the vineyard yields a refined Barbaresco of wild berry, leather, and menthol. The VV designation signals grapes from the oldest vines in this intimate parcel, a wine of striking personality and minerality. Montefico has been labeled Vecchie Viti since 2007, a testament to Roagna's belief that vine age and site distinction create transcendent Barbaresco.

"The 2020 Barbaresco Montefico Vecchie Viti is one of the most reticent wines in this range. Then again, we are talking about Montefico. Strong savory and mineral notes take center stage. Mint, sweet pipe tobacco and sage open first, while fruit remains in the background. Driving yet fine-grained tannins shape the mid-palate and finish. This is such a striking wine. Classic Montefico all way. Chalk, dried herbs, dried flowers and a hint of earthiness build into the delineated, saline-drenched finish. Superb." -Antonio Galloni

The Vecchie Vigne selection is made from the oldest vines in the cru - vines over 50 years. Hand-harvested in mid-October.
Vinification
Soft pressing with destemming. Fermentation in wood casks. Maceration for 70-90 days.

4-6 years in medium-sized French and Slavonian oak casks.
