Giacomo Fenocchio is all about traditional Barolo—long macerations, large neutral oak, and wines that let the vineyard speak. Villero, a top cru in Castiglione Falletto, is known for producing Barolos with both power and finesse. The 2020 vintage, with its balance of ripeness and freshness, highlights the vineyard’s signature depth and precision.

Bright red cherry, wild strawberry, and blood orange lead, layered with dried roses, licorice, and crushed stone. The tannins are firm but polished, giving structure without overwhelming the wine’s elegance. Decant now for a glimpse of its complexity, or cellar for 15–20 years to watch it unfold. Perfect with braised meats, truffle dishes, or just a long, slow evening appreciating classic Barolo.

"The 2020 Barolo Villero offers up scents of pipe tobacco, spice, new leather, menthol and licorice. This is a pretty elegant, translucent style for the Villero, but one that works quite well. Despite some youthful tannin, the 2020 is already pretty open. I don't see it as a long-term ager, but it is quite attractive today." —Vinous

"This Barolo is a true classic, showcasing everything that makes the region's wines so captivating. The nose is a testament to tradition, with a bouquet that transports you to the heart of Barolo. On the palate, it's a structural marvel, with a backbone of chalk minerality that's as solid as the Langhe hills themselves. But what really sets this wine apart is the abundance of earthy notes that permeate every sniff and sip. It's like taking a walk through a damp forest, surrounded by the scents of soil and leaves. This is a wine that doesn't just demand your attention – it commands it. If you're lucky enough to experience this extraordinary wine, get ready for a sensory journey like no other."

More about Giacomo Fenocchio

Five generations of Fenocchios have been making wine from their Barolo holdings since 1894. Giacomo took over in 1964 and expanded the estate, then passed the torch to his son Claudio in 1989. They own four prized Cru plots—Bussia, Villero, Castellero, Cannubi—and make Barolo the traditional way: long maceration, no roto-fermentors, only indigenous methods that speak terroir.

Giacomo Fenocchio | View all Giacomo Fenocchio products

Claudio Fenocchio (son of Giacomo) is one of those unsung heroes who makes traditionally-styled Barolo but remains in the shadows of the superstars like Rinaldi or Mascarello. He is just as dedicated to his farming and he makes wine in the same non-interventionist fashion, aging his wines entirely in large Slavonian casks.

What stands out about Fenocchio is his terroir precision. Unlike Bartolo Mascarello, where Maria Teresa blends all her grapes into a single Barolo cuvée, Fenocchio likes to produce cru-specific wines. Tasting through his line-up, we are always stunned at how the characteristic of each vineyard jumps out.
