Saint-Amour might have the most romantic name in Beaujolais, and Domaine des Billards makes one of its most serious versions. The five-hectare estate sits on the cru's southeast mid-slope, on sandstone, granite and clay, farmed traditionally without herbicides; the Gamay is vinified semi-carbonic for gentle, refined tannins. This is the 2010, a classic, well-balanced vintage, now mature and showing the savory depth cru Beaujolais develops with time.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"Bright purple. Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, rose, lavender and Asian spices. Juicy, pure and penetrating, offering tightly wound red berry, floral and star anise flavors that gain depth with air. A long, aromatic, sharply delineated finish features bright berry and floral qualities. Incidentally, the excellent 2009 version of this wine has shut down a bit since last year but also seems to have put on some weight. I'd let it rest for a couple more years before cracking another bottle." —Josh Raynolds

Medium-bodied with red berry fruit moving toward dried fruit and spice; the balanced 2010 plus bottle age give a smooth, savory, mature character.
