Bosquet des Papes is a decidedly old-school Chateauneuf house, passed father to son since 1860 and now in its fifth generation, working only with large wooden vessels rather than flashy new barriques. Their white is the rare bottling here, a blend of roughly 45% Clairette, 35% Grenache Blanc and 20% Bourboulenc, aged in demi-muids for texture without heavy oak. At only around 350 cases a year, it's a small production. The 2016 came from an excellent, balanced Rhone vintage, and with a decade of age now this white has shed any baby fat to show the honeyed, nutty, mineral depth that good Chateauneuf blanc develops. A wonderful match for richer cooking. Serve it not too cold.

Robert Parker

89 points

"Partially fermented and matured in demi-muids, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc shows some herbal notes reminiscent of dill or fennel fronds on the nose, followed by hints of citrus and pear on the medium-bodied palate. This blend of fine varieties broadens out a bit on the finish but remains zesty, briny and fresh enough to drink well for the next few years." —Joe Czerwinski

Wine Enthusiast

93 points

"Freshy laundered linen, yellow apple and orange blossom perfume this blend of five grape varieties. It's a juicy, refreshing sip offering sunny apple, pear and lemon flavors. While full bodied and pliant in acidity, it finishes with an elegant grip of tannins. Enjoy now through 2020 or hold till 2026 to develop savory complexities." —Anna Lee C. Iijima

More about Bosquet des Papes

The Boiron family has owned this Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate since it was established in 1860, and they're now in their sixth generation of winemaking. Their 32 hectares produce Grenache-based Châteauneuf that's traditional, mature, and properly aged in old foudres and demi-muids. These are wines made with respect for method and time, not shortcuts. The family's commitment to tradition means the wines evolve beautifully in the bottle, rewarding patience with genuine complexity.
