Berthaut-Gerbet’s Clos de Vougeot comes from a 0.31 ha parcel planted in 1956 near the bottom of the clos. Amélie Berthaut uses partial whole-cluster fermentation and restrained extraction to emphasize finesse.

The 2023 was aged 13–15 months in barrel, 30% new. A finely structured Grand Cru that balances depth and lift from one of Burgundy’s rising stars.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 94
"An airy, pretty and layered nose of red cherry, plum and newly turned earth is exuberantly fresh. There is good fine volume and good if not special mid-palate density to the punchy and lingering finish that offers a bit more depth if not the same minerality. This is impressively well-balanced and should also amply reward extended keeping."

Antonio Galloni

AG 95
"The 2023 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru offers a more complex bouquet than the 2022, articulating the terroir with greater panache and featuring wonderful red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and light touches of desiccated orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, luscious entry, smooth tannins and flavors of mulberry mixed with black cherries and cola, leading to a generous, slightly confit-like finish. Drink it over the next couple of decades." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

RP 93
"The 2023 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru offers up aromas of raspberries and plums mingled with orange zest and petals. Medium to full-bodied, ample and suave, with lively acids and a sapid finish, it will offer a broad drinking window." -William Kelley

Jancis Robinson

JR 17
"From old vines at the very bottom of the slope/cru. Cask sample. Mid-pale ruby. Red cherry and strawberry with a ferrous note on the nose. Medium-bodied with good concentration. Fine, crisp acidity and some smoky complexity on the weighty finish. Grows in volume with a ripe, salty finish"

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
